During breakfast we decided it would be fun to try and make our own jelly, I've always wanted to but have always been intimitated by it. So, we made it our goal for the day and after church we went and bought a big ole bag of plums. I would love to have my own plum trees, maybe one day.
Ava had been invited to the movies with a friend and Evelyn was napping so it was a perfect opportunity to spend some time with Eli. Its hard dividing your time between three kids and Eli is at a really tough age, lots of back talking and attitude around here lately. Its been fun *sarcastic tone*. So spending the day with just him was just what we all needed. He wasn't excatly excited at first about spending the afternoon making homemade jam with his mom and dad, but as we got started he loved it and we loved it. Eli chopped all the plums, I washed the jars, Ricky read the directions over and over, and then I read the directions over and over, we carefully followed every word. We were all so excited during each step, waiting to see what the outcome would be. In the end we ended up with 10 jars of deliciois plum jam. I mean, its really good, really good! One of the funest parts was waiting and listening for the lids to pop! Seriously, I'm hooked. Eli thinks it would be cool to make and sell our jelly at the farmers market, I do too. We just need to perfect our recipe;)
Last night Eli crawled into my bed, wanted to say prayers and just lay with us for a while. I told him how much I loved today and making jam with him. He said he did too, he really loved it.
So yesterday wasn't really about making jam but making memories, and I hope this one goes down in his book of really great childhood memories, I know it will go down in my book of really great mom memories.
So, today I made some fresh butter and fresh bread to go with our jam, look out pioneer woman!
